Written for software engineers, full-stack/backend/frontend devs, and technical job-seekers — not general job hunters. Split into an India section and a Global/outside-India section, since the platforms that actually work differ a lot between the two markets.

1. How to think about this before you start applying#

Job platforms fall into a few distinct buckets, and mixing them up wastes weeks:

TypeWhat it doesUse it when…
Mass job boards (Naukri, Indeed, LinkedIn)Huge volume, huge competition, resume-database modelYou want maximum reach and are applying at scale
AI/algorithm-matched tech platforms (Instahyre, Cutshort, Hired)You build one strong profile, companies express interest firstYou have a solid resume/projects and want signal over volume
Startup-specific boards (Wellfound, Y Combinator's Work at a Startup)Salary/equity shown upfront, direct founder contactYou want early-stage/startup roles, not big-corp
Vetted global marketplaces (Turing, Toptal, Arc.dev)Hard technical screening once, then matched to international (often US) clientsYou want to work for foreign companies without relocating, and can pass a rigorous test
Compensation-first platforms (Levels.fyi Jobs, Hired)Pay transparency and reverse-marketplace (companies apply to you)You're optimizing specifically for total comp
Remote-only aggregators (RemoteOK, Himalayas, We Work Remotely)Filtered to remote-first companies globallyYou want location-independent work specifically

A useful rule that shows up across almost every 2026 comparison: don't rely on one platform. A layered stack — one broad board for coverage, one specialist/AI-matched platform for signal, and one niche board for your specific goal (remote, startup, comp) — consistently outperforms grinding a single site.

2. India — top platforms#

Naukri.com#

India's largest and oldest job portal, still the default for IT-services-heavy hiring (TCS, Infosys, Wipro-type companies) and the biggest resume database in the country. Naukri's own JobSpeak Index reportedly showed hiring activity up meaningfully year-on-year into late 2025, so overall volume remains strong.

  • Best for: Broad reach, especially outside Tier-1 cities, and IT services / MNC bulk hiring.
  • Reality check: Very high applicant volume per posting means your resume can get buried — pair it with a specialist platform below rather than relying on it alone.
  • Link: https://www.naukri.com

Instahyre#

An AI-matching platform ("InstaMatch") used by companies including Google, Amazon, and Microsoft in India. Instead of applying to postings, you build a detailed profile and express interest; the algorithm surfaces you to relevant recruiters, and companies you match with reach out first.

  • Best for: 2–10 years experienced engineers targeting product companies and well-funded startups.
  • Watch out for: Profile quality matters a lot — if your resume doesn't clear their baseline bar, match quality drops sharply. Not the easiest platform for freshers.
  • Link: https://www.instahyre.com

Hirist#

Naukri's tech-focused sister platform, positioned specifically for backend, frontend, mobile, data, and DevOps roles, drawing from an IIT/NIT-heavy graduate pool with AI-driven screening. Reported as used by 100+ unicorns for engineering hiring.

  • Best for: Mid-to-senior tech-specific roles where you want a more filtered pool than Naukri's general listings.
  • Link: https://www.hirist.com

Cutshort#

Combines AI/ML-based matching with a startup- and product-company-heavy candidate pool, particularly strong for 0–5 years experience. Popular with companies like Razorpay, Freshworks, and Series A/B startups.

  • Best for: Early-to-mid career engineers targeting the Indian startup ecosystem; also has community/networking features.
  • Link: https://cutshort.io

Wellfound (formerly AngelList Talent)#

Global startup job board with a strong India presence — every listing typically shows funding stage, team size, and salary/equity range upfront, so you don't need three recruiter calls just to find out the band.

  • Best for: Startup roles (seed to Series C), remote-friendly positions, and getting direct access to founders/hiring managers instead of HR gatekeeping.
  • Link: https://wellfound.com

IIMJobs (and its Hirist sister listings)#

Originally built for management roles, but its tech/senior-engineering listings (via the Hirist family) are relevant once you're targeting leadership or senior IC tracks.

  • Best for: Senior/lead engineering and engineering-management roles.
  • Link: https://www.iimjobs.com

Foundit (formerly Monster India)#

Broad mid-management and general reach platform — a reasonable secondary board for coverage beyond Naukri.

  • Link: https://www.foundit.in

GeeksforGeeks Jobs#

The recruitment arm of the well-known coding-education platform, tailored specifically toward developers who engage with coding challenges and DSA practice. Strong fit if your strength is algorithmic/competitive programming.

  • Best for: Fresh graduates and competitive programmers with strong DSA fundamentals.
  • Link: https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/jobs

HackerEarth#

A coding-assessment and hackathon-driven hiring platform — companies evaluate you through real coding challenges rather than resume screening alone, which favors candidates who are stronger at proving skill than at writing resumes.

  • Best for: Skill-first hiring, hackathon participants, and candidates who'd rather demonstrate ability than sell it on paper.
  • Link: https://www.hackerearth.com

Internshala#

The default platform for internships and entry-level/fresher roles. Not useful once you have a few years of experience.

  • Best for: Students and freshers only.
  • Link: https://internshala.com

3. Outside India — top global platforms#

LinkedIn Jobs#

Technically a professional network more than a job board, but its scale (1B+ members) and context — mutual connections, hiring-manager activity, company insight — make it close to mandatory for mid-career and senior roles internationally. The real value is using it deliberately (direct outreach, referrals) rather than passively applying.

  • Best for: Mid-to-senior roles anywhere in the world, and building the relationships that lead to referrals.
  • Link: https://www.linkedin.com/jobs

Wellfound (global)#

The default board for startup hiring worldwide, not just India — funding stage, team size, and salary/equity shown per listing. Reported to have one of the better reply rates among branded job boards in independent studies.

  • Best for: Startup-native talent wanting direct founder access instead of a corporate funnel.
  • Link: https://wellfound.com

Turing#

AI-powered developer-matching platform connecting remote developers (a large share based in India and other non-US countries) with mostly US companies. Runs a multi-hour technical vetting process (coding exercises + interviews), then matches you to client roles.

  • Best for: Indian/global developers who want to work for US companies without relocating, and can pass a rigorous, multi-stage technical screen.
  • Reality check: Turing does not publish a public rate card for developers, and third-party analyses estimate the platform retains a significant share of the client's bill rate as margin — so treat any quoted number as a starting point for negotiation, not a fixed figure.
  • Link: https://www.turing.com

Toptal#

The "top 3%" vetted network — rigorous technical screening (tests, code reviews, live interviews), after which you're matched to long-term client retainers rather than one-off gigs. Rates skew premium.

  • Best for: Senior developers who can pass a hard bar and prefer fewer, longer engagements over constant pitching.
  • Link: https://www.toptal.com

Arc.dev#

Remote-first network blending vetted matching with more traditional job listings, covering developers, designers, and technical marketers at startups and tech companies globally.

  • Link: https://arc.dev

Dice#

The strongest platform specifically for contract/IT staffing roles in the US tech market — a good pairing with LinkedIn for recruiter inbound on contract-heavy openings.

  • Best for: Contract and staffing-style tech roles, primarily US-facing.
  • Link: https://www.dice.com

Levels.fyi Jobs#

Built around compensation transparency — median software-engineer pay data (base, equity, bonus) at companies including FAANG-tier firms is public, so you can benchmark an offer before you even apply.

  • Best for: Setting a realistic salary floor before negotiating, especially for US-market roles. Mostly US-focused for compensation data, and limited to companies in its database.
  • Link: https://www.levels.fyi/jobs

Hired#

A reverse-marketplace model — you build one strong profile with disclosed compensation ranges, and vetted companies apply to interview you, rather than the other way around.

  • Best for: Experienced engineers who want inbound interest instead of cold-applying.
  • Link: https://hired.com

Y Combinator's Work at a Startup#

Direct pipeline into YC-backed companies — useful specifically for early-stage startup roles with high growth/equity upside.

  • Best for: Developers who want to join an early-stage startup and are comfortable with startup risk/pace.
  • Link: https://www.workatastartup.com

RemoteOK#

Tag-based, remote-native job board with salary data and strong stack-based filtering (React, Go, Rust, etc.). Some filters/salary data have moved behind a paywall in recent updates — check current access before relying on it.

  • Best for: Filtering remote roles precisely by tech stack.
  • Link: https://remoteok.com

Himalayas#

Clean, modern remote-job board showing salary and timezone info on every listing, with some built-in AI tools for job matching/resume tailoring. Frequently cited as one of the better free, transparent options in 2026 comparisons.

  • Best for: Remote-only roles globally, with less noise than larger generalist boards.
  • Link: https://himalayas.app

We Work Remotely#

One of the longest-running remote job boards — free to browse and apply, employer-pays-to-post model, no commission on either side.

  • Best for: Longer-term remote roles, broad tech + non-tech coverage.
  • Link: https://weworkremotely.com

5. A practical stack (pick 3–5, not 15)#

If you're in India, targeting Indian companies:

  1. Naukri — for coverage
  2. Instahyre or Hirist — for tech-specific signal
  3. Wellfound — for startup roles with transparent comp
  4. LinkedIn — for referrals and senior roles

If you're in India, targeting global/remote/US roles:

  1. Turing — for a vetted path into US client work without relocating
  2. Wellfound (remote filter) — for international startup roles
  3. LinkedIn — direct outreach to hiring managers abroad
  4. RemoteOK / Himalayas — for remote-native listings filtered by stack

If you're outside India, targeting global/US tech roles:

  1. LinkedIn — relationship-driven, essential for mid/senior
  2. Wellfound or Y Combinator's Work at a Startup — for startup-stage roles
  3. Levels.fyi Jobs — to benchmark comp before negotiating
  4. Dice (if contract work) or Toptal/Arc.dev (if consulting-style)

6. Checklist before you start applying#

  • Pick one primary volume board and one specialist/AI-matched board — don't spread across ten platforms with a thin profile on each.
  • Fill your profile completely before relying on match-based platforms (Instahyre, Cutshort, Hired) — thin profiles get filtered out by their algorithms before a human ever sees them.
  • For vetted marketplaces (Turing, Toptal), budget real prep time for the technical screen — it's a multi-hour, multi-stage process, not a form you fill out.
  • If targeting remote/global roles, check salary/timezone requirements up front (Wellfound, Himalayas, Levels.fyi all show this) rather than discovering a mismatch after interviews.
  • Treat job boards as the discovery layer — the highest-signal outcome is still a warm referral or direct hiring-manager outreach on LinkedIn, not a cold application.
  • Watch for remote-job scams: verify any opening on the employer's own official site, and never pay for the promise of a job or interview.
